Women's Long-Term Drug Rehab
in Southern California
Our experience (and numerous research studies) has shown that women who spend longer than 30 days in a treatment environment are more likely to achieve long-term sobriety or abstinence from an eating disorder. One of the original reasons Sober Living by the Sea became such a popular destination for recovering women was that it was a "real life" experiential treatment experience that allowed women to integrate back into society while living in a supportive and structured environment.
Sober Living by the Sea treatment centers also offer primary treatment (including detox) for women who need a more closed environment for the first 30 to 60 days of their sobriety. Please see the overview of our rehab programs to view our entire continuum of care at a glance.
Our "extended care" or "long-term" rehab program is the ideal program for women who have already completed a 30 day, 60 day, or 90 day program in a highly structured "primary care" facility. The women in our extended care program are housed in gender-specific homes where they build a connection with other recovering women (and their female "house parent"). In our extended care program, women participate in co-ed group therapy sessions, workshops, and 12-step support meetings while continuing to participate in some "women only" 12-step meetings, receiving one-on-one therapy with their counselor, and having gender-specific house meetings for meditations.
A recent L.A. Times article entitled "The 30-Day Myth" highlighted the latest data correlating extended residential treatment with more successful treatment outcomes.
Women Have Unique Needs in Treatment
Sober Living by the Sea has treated women for over 23 years and is well aware of the unique needs and challenges that our female clients experience during the process of recovery.
Women often have become chemically dependent on drugs or alcohol for different reasons than male drug abusers. Women also have a different set of predisposing risk factors, psychological disorders, and family and social risk factors than men. It is common for women in our treatment centers to have experienced trauma caused by sexual, physical, or emotional abuse. Women are prone to experience depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, shame, guilt, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Women who have experienced trauma often struggle with trust and interpersonal skills.
We have learned that an effective treatment program for women has to address all of these issues at once. Our team of counselors, therapists, doctors, and psychiatrists has expertise in the identification and treatment of women confronted with dual diagnosis in addition to their alcoholism or addiction.
